Livestock Feed Milling
Managment

Four days of expert-led training in feed mill process optimization, shrinkage control, maintenance, and raw material impact — including a full-day visit to a commercial feed mill.

Programme Dates

January 19–22, 2027

Venue

Bangkok, Thailand

Early Bird Ends

November 30, 2026

What you'll walk away with

Four technical focus areas, covering the full livestock feed production chain.

Process Optimization & Capacity

Realizing the true capacity of your machines, lines, and plant as a whole — and accomplishing more from an existing feed mill without major capital investment.

Maintenance & Reliability Implementing

a maintenance program that's right for your operation, measuring maintenance efficiency, and avoiding downtime and shutdowns.

Shrinkage Control

Uncovering the process steps that contribute most to physical stock loss, and understanding the financial impact of dry matter and moisture loss or gain.

Raw Material & Formulation Impact

Selecting and setting up machinery based on raw material or formulation choices, and achieving 100% finished product quality while eliminating losses.

The 4-day curriculum

From raw material intake to mill digitalization — building depth each day, with hands-on time at a live feed mill on Day 3.

Day 1

Raw Material Handling & Size Reduction

  • Raw material receiving process, evaluation, and screening

  • Silo and warehouse management

  • Grinding type comparison, operations, setup, and troubleshooting

  • Principles of particle size reduction — why it matters and what to watch for

  • Hammer mill and roller mill setup and operation

Day 2

Batching, Mixing & Pelleting

  • Batch weighing and dosing accuracy; capacity and batch cycle times

  • Troubleshooting and correcting dosing errors and batching times

  • Evaluating mixer designs and troubleshooting mixer-related issues

  • Steam distribution system and troubleshooting steam quality

  • Setup and optimization of conditioners for better gelatinization

  • Principles of pelleting: setup, operation, and control

  • Troubleshooting pellet mill issues; die and roller selection

Day 3

Field Visit & Practical Workshops

  • Walk through a commercial feed mill and make observations under facilitator guidance

  • Practical workshops to discuss, analyze, and troubleshoot what was observed

  • Process optimization — identify and quantify opportunities to further improve feed mill capacity

Day 4

Feed Mill Optimisation & New Technologies

  • Cooling objectives and principles; cooler design and control

  • Crumbler setup and sieve selection

  • Post-pelleting liquid application systems (PPLAs) — selection and operation

  • Understanding shrinkage and its financial/quality impacts, and how to manage it

  • Operational optimization and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

  • Feed mill design and construction — conceptualization, equipment, and supplier selection

  • Feed mill digitalization and selection of digital/automation systems

  • Feed mill operations and management — forecasting, planning, budgeting, and KPIs
