šŸ„ A Look Back: Inside the Dairy Production & Management Course Experience

The Dairy Production & Management course by Progressus offers more than classroom learning—it's a hands-on, immersive experience tailored for the real-world challenges of dairy farming in Southeast Asia. Designed specifically for professionals in the region, the course blends science-backed knowledge with practical strategies, helping participants address pressing issues like heat stress, milk quality, and low fertility rates.

Dairy production course field visit

One of the highlights of the course was a field visit to the Nakorn Ratchasima Animal Nutrition Research and Development Center (ANRDC). Here, participants explored tropical forage production and observed the Forage Gene Bank, gaining insight into the characteristics and adaptability of various grasses and legumes. They also rolled up their sleeves for hands-on practice in forage cultivation—learning techniques such as seed sowing and stem cutting. The experience extended to forage preservation, where they worked with different methods including silage making, hay production, and fodder harvesting. A practical session on dairy feed production introduced participants to concentrate mixing and the formulation of Total Mixed Ration (TMR), strengthening their understanding of on-farm nutrition.

Another impactful visit took place at the Dairy Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO)Ā in Muaklek, Saraburi. This included a tour of DPO’s industrial milk processing facility, where participants saw firsthand how quality control is implemented at scale. The visit also introduced participants to Thailand’s dairy marketing strategy and the structure of the local dairy market. The experience culminated at the DPO Smart Dairy Farm, where real-life feeding practices were demonstrated across different lactation periods—highlighting how targeted nutrition can improve milk yield and cow performance.

Beyond technical skills, the course fostered valuable connections among participants—veterinarians, nutritionists, farm managers, and feed professionals from across Asia. Many left with not only new tools and knowledge, but also a broader perspective and peer network to support their professional journey.
