Advance Your Swine Production Skills with Practical, Region-Relevant Insights

Updated: Oct 8

The swine industry in Asia and Southeast Asia is evolving rapidly. Pork remains a key source of protein and plays a vital role in the agricultural economy. However, producers in tropical regions face mounting challenges. These include African Swine Fever (ASF), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), climate-related heat stress, volatile feed prices, and increasing restrictions on antibiotic use.

Challenges in the Swine Industry

To remain competitive and profitable, farms must focus on efficiency, herd health, and adaptability. This means optimizing feed conversion, reproductive performance, and biosecurity. Embracing sustainable practices and smart technologies is also essential. Yet, many farms invest in infrastructure, genetics, and equipment without fully unlocking their potential. This often happens because staff lack the training to interpret data and implement the latest solutions effectively.

The Importance of Training

Training is crucial in addressing these challenges. The Progressus Swine Production & Management AgriSchool offers a solution. This 4-day intensive program is developed for Swine Industry Leaders. It is designed for farm owners, managers, key production staff, feed manufacturers, nutrition and health suppliers, industry advisors, and technical consultants. The course equips participants with the knowledge, experience, and practical know-how needed to achieve efficiency and sustainability in pig production.

Course Overview

Attendees will gain a deep understanding of swine management. This includes feeding, breeding, disease prevention, and climate adaptation. Additionally, they will enjoy valuable networking opportunities with industry leaders and technical consultants.

Course Content & Expert Instructors

The topics covered are carefully selected to address real-world challenges and trends participants face on their farms. These include:

  • Disease prevention and control in high-risk environments (ASF, PRRS, Mycoplasma)

  • Advanced nutrition and feed efficiency strategies

  • Reproductive management and programmed production planning

  • Heat stress mitigation

  • Sustainable, low-emission production methods

  • The use of smart farming tools and data-driven decision-making

Every session is designed for immediate application. This helps participants improve herd performance, farm efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Expert Instructors

The course is led by Tony Edwards, an Australian animal nutritionist with over 45 years of experience in livestock production, research, and training. He currently consults for about one-third of the Australian pig industry, as well as clients in New Zealand and Asia.

Also leading the course is Juan Antonio Mesonero Escuredo, a veterinarian and Technical Manager from EW Nutrition Europe. He has more than 20 years of experience in the animal health industry. Additionally, Dr. Pariwat Poolperm, a respected swine health specialist from Thailand, will share his expertise on biosecurity and disease control. He will provide participants with practical strategies to manage health challenges in high-risk farm environments.

Learning Format

The course combines classroom learning, case studies, and peer exchange. This reflects Progressus’ core value of improving people’s skills and career development. Participants will have the opportunity to connect and exchange knowledge with peers and experts after the course. This allows them to mutually solve issues that farms commonly experience.

Alumni Feedback

"The objectives: LEARN, REFRESH, and CONNECT were fully achieved. The course was very helpful in validating and reinforcing my existing knowledge. It gave me confidence that my farm practices are on the right track. Most importantly, it allowed me to build a professional network with experts from across the Asia-Pacific region. This is extremely beneficial for future knowledge exchange and collaboration." — President, Swine Farm, Philippines
